Help, my Bamboo turned brown from frost damage 2 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
I have a bamboo plant thats about 3years old. Im not sure what variety of bamboo it is, but it is a clumping bamboo. The tallest culms are about 9 feet tall and there are also smaller culms. The small culms turned completely brown and the taller culms are kind of green and brownish. Most of the leaves have fallen off. I think it may be dead. Should i cut the brown culms. is there some way i can tell if it is still alive (besides waiting).

I wouldnt cut any culms yet. I have a bambusa textilis about the same size and a lot of the smaller culms are brown. These culms are however starting to send up new leaves from their branches. There are also many new shoots that have started coming up. The tallest culms on my bambusa textilis are still green but have not made any new leaves. These tall culms came up late last season and never grew branches before the winter. i think they might grow branches and leaves soon though. Even if all your bamboo culms are dead, the rhizomes will probably send up new shoots. If your bamboo died back every year it would still probably send up new shoots in the spring. It would probably never treach its full size though. Just keep checking for new shoots.
